Istanbul Technical University (www.itu.edu.tr), which was established in 1773, aims to educate the technological leaders and entrepreneurs of the future in a rich intellectual environment sensitive to both local and global issues. With a history stretching back over 227 years, ITU is strongly identified with architectural and engineering education in Turkey. The efforts and expertise of ITU graduates have been major contributors in the planning and construction of Turkey’s roads, bridges, dams, factories, buildings, energy plants, communication networks, villages and cities. ITU is a state university which defines and continues to update methods of engineering and architecture in Turkey. The faculty of Civil Engineering involves three departments being the Civil Engineering, Geomatics Engineering and Environmental Engineering Departments. .

Department of Geomatics has well- equipped laboratories with the most advanced capabilities among all universities and agencies in Turkey, supporting post graduate studies and research in the areas ofphotogrammetry, geographic information science, spatial data modeling and remotesensing.
