The University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy (UACEG) in Sofia is the oldest and among the most prestigious higher technical schools in Bulgaria. More than 68 years after the University foundation we are proud to declare that our university is a preferred higher school with a modern equipment for training and research, highly-qualified lecturers, researchers and specialists. Today, the contemporary mission of the University is to provide a training compatible with the European educational and qualification standards, accessible for candidates all over the world. Our university is not only a source of higher technical knowledge and skills, but also a center of fruitful cooperation among the students, teachers and researchers from all over the world.

The department of Photogrammetry and Cartography was founded in 1942 as Photogrammetry, Topography and Cadastre department. In 1945, a new department Photogrammetry and Topography derives from the primary department. In 1948 the new department is renamed Photogrammetry. The following disciplines are offered: Topographical Geomorphology, Topographic Maps, Photogrammetry, Map Projections, Cartography, Engineering Photogrammetry, Map Production, Remote Sensing Methods and Digital Image Processing, Geographic Information Systems, Cartographic Methods in Economy and Ecology, Processing of Data for Development of Digital Relief Models, Computerised Cartography etc.

Assoc. Professor Dr. Rumiana Vatseva

holds MSc in Geography, Geomorphology and Cartography from the Sofia University “St. Kliment Ohridski”. In 2005 she received her PhD in Cartography from the Institute of Geography at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Dr. Rumiana Vatseva is an Associate Professor of Physical Geography and Landscape Studies at the National Institute of Geophysics, Geodesy and Geography of the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences. Her research interests lie in remote sensing, spatial analysis and modelling, land use/cover change detection, thematic mapping, landscape ecology, geomorphology, and protected areas. Dr. Vatseva is a member of the Consultative Council on Environment at the Bulgarian Ministry of Environment and Waters. During the last 10 years she has published 47 scientific papers in journals and conference proceedings. Dr. Vatseva participated in 21 research projects, including five as Scientific Responsible/Principal Investigator.

Assistant Prof. Nikolay Naydenov

1995 - Master of science, Geodesy, University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy, Sofia, Bulgaria.

2000 - Assistant professor of Cartography, Map productions, Map projections and GIS in University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy, Sofia.

2001 Head of Geoinformation centre of infrastructure civil engineering in University of Architecture, Civil Engineering and Geodesy, Sofia.

More than 13 years of professional experience as qualified GIS expert. Project leader of large urban development and cadastral project. Experience in design and elaborate GIS models for rivers and traffic. More than 10 year of teaching using and creating GIS applications.

Good knowledge of PHARE, Leonardo de Vinci and World Bank tendering and contracting procedures. Also experienced in the technical administrative activities and with computerized project management systems in the municipalities, civil infrastructure, cadastre, urban plnannig. Experience in remote sensing and database modelling.
