Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH)

The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUT) was founded in 1925 and is today the largest university in the country, with about 80.000 students and 2.300 teaching/research staff. At present, in the Aristotle University there are 10 faculties, consisting of 49 departments. The AUT Research Committee [www.rc.auth.gr] is legally responsible for serving the administrative and operational needs of research, technological and training programmes carried out by the members of the institution. Research Committee is responsible for the realization of the research policy and the management of research projects and it will be responsible for the administration of this project as well. The Aristotle University is a member in almost all International Organizations, Unions and University Networks.

The Faculty of Engineering http://www.eng.auth.gr/ comprises of 8 schools (School of Civil Engineering, School of Architecture, School of Rural and Surveying Engineering, School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Electrical and Computer Engineering, School of Chemical Engineering, School of Mathematics, Physics and Computational Sciences, School of Urban-Regional Planning and Development Engineering ) and was found in 1955. With more than eleven thousand students, the Faculty of Engineering is one of the university’s largest and most dynamic constituents. Over more than five decades, the School of Engineering evolved to an internationally appreciated academic entity with regard to both the high level of education offered and the level of innovative research conducted. The undergraduate courses offered by the departments are complemented by numerous graduate studies of interdisciplinary nature.

Key Personnel Involved

 

Prof. Petros Patias, is full Professor at The Aristotle University of Thessaloniki at the Department of Cadastre, Photogrammetry and Cartography Faculty of Rural and Surveying Engineering. He has a huge experience in research while he served as Project Manager, Principal Researcher or member of Research Group to a total of 70 Research Projects funded by National or European Organizations. He is also reviewer in national and European level for research proposals. In his record, one can find: 9 Dissertations / Monographs / Books and 148 scientific publications in international journals and conference proceedings. Prof. Patias is a member of scientific and organising committees of various international conferences and workshops. He is also Co-chair of the ISPRS Special Interest WG “Technology Transfer Caravan” (2008-2012) and Member of the ISPRS Ad-hoc Committee on “Knowledge transfer” (2008-2012).

Dr. Charalampos Georgiadis received his diploma as Surveying Engineer in 1997 from the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. In 2000 he received his Msc in Protection, Preservation, and Restoration and of Cultural Monuments from the same University. In 2005 he received his Ph. D. In the area of Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing from the University of Maine, USA. He is a lecturer in the Department of Civil Engineer in the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki since 2009. During the last 10 years Dr. Georgiadis prepared 22 scientific publications for journal and conventions proceedings, and participated in 22 research projects funded by National or International Organizations.

Dr. Dimitris Kaimaris is a Lecturer in Urban and Regional Development. He received his MSc and his ΡhD, in ''Protection, Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Monuments'' from the Interdepartmental Post Graduate Programme, Department of Architecture AUTH in 2006.

Dr. Vassilios Tsioukas received his BSc as Electrical Engineer from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, in 1992. He is Assistant Professor at the Department of Architectural Engineering of the Democritus University of Thrace in Greece. He received his PhD in Digital Photorgammetry, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece, in 2000. Dr. Tsioukas is participating in ISPRS and CIPA.
