May 9, 2011. OBSERVE participates in the EGIDA workshop held in Bonn, Germany

On May 9 to 11, a workshop of the EGIDA stakeholder network and its advisory board took place in Bonn, Germany. The workshop was hosted by the University of Bonn and brought together about 70 participants from a variety of national and international institutions.

EGIDA is an FP7 project being funded by the European Commission to support broader im-plementation and effectiveness of the GEOSS Science and Technology roadmap and the mis-sion of GEOSS.

GEOSS (“The Global Earth Observation System of Systems”) shall link together existing and planned observing systems around the world and support the development of new systems where gaps currently exist. It will promote common technical standards so that data from the thousands of different instruments can be combined into coherent data sets (see http://www.earthobservations.org/geoss.shtml ).

Within this framework, EGIDA shall push forward coherent and interoperable networking of national and international initiatives and European projects (see http://www.egida-project.eu ).

One of the tasks of EGIDA is the establishment of a stakeholder network. Particularly attrac-tive stakeholders are our OBSERVE project as well our sister project Balkan GEONet. Both projects offer the chance for innovative capacity building within the Balkan region as they are not affected by historical national implementation concepts.

Further details about the workshop in Bonn are contained in its website. This also includes a series of pictures taken during the workshop ( http://www.geo-tasks.org/egida/meetings/snab_ws2011 ).
